Key Aspects of IELTS (IDP):

  • Test Format: IELTS assesses four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The test is available in two versions: Academic and General Training. The Academic version is for those applying for higher education or professional registration, while the General Training version is for those migrating to English-speaking countries for work, training, or secondary education.
  • Listening: The Listening test consists of four sections, with a variety of question types, such as multiple choice, matching, and completion tasks. Test takers listen to recordings of native English speakers and answer questions based on what they hear.
  • Reading: The Reading test assesses candidates' reading comprehension skills through three sections with a variety of question types, including multiple choice, matching, and short-answer questions. The passages are taken from books, newspapers, magazines, and online sources.
  • Writing: The Writing test includes two tasks. Task 1 requires candidates to describe, summarize, or explain visual information (e.g., charts, graphs, diagrams). Task 2 requires candidates to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem.
  • Speaking: The Speaking test assesses candidates' spoken English skills through a face-to-face interview with a certified examiner. The test includes three parts: an introduction and interview, a long turn where candidates speak on a topic for 1-2 minutes, and a discussion related to the topic in Part 2.
  • Scoring: Each section of the IELTS test is scored on a scale of 0 to 9 bands. Overall Band Scores are reported to the nearest half band.
  • Validity: IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date.
  • Preparation Resources: IDP Education offers a range of preparation materials and resources, including practice tests, study guides, and workshops, to help candidates prepare for the exam.
